Destruction and Repair: Art and Writings by Children of Survivors

November 11, 2014 by Kasva Leave a Comment

Wire LeafKasva Press is pleased to have been chosen to publish a unique compendium of creative works by the children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. The collection will include essays, poetry, photography, and artwork based on the experiences of sons and daughters who grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust. The project was founded by Chaya Rosen, poet and child of holocaust survivors.

Mission statement

Chaya Rosen writes: Up until now, we–the generation after–have focused on the “five w’s” of the holocaust: who, what, when, where, why. Now, it’s time for us to move on to what happens next. Who are we? What have we made of our parents memories? This collection promises one answer–we are a generation that has turned the bitterest memories into artistic expression. The collection comes out of an experiment with using a facebook group to collect the creative works of second and third generation survivors.  As I traveled through previous groups, I realized that here and there were snippets of marvelous insights and exquisite art. I thought: this is who we are! But it wasn’t being preserved. By the very nature of Facebook, things came and went. Five mintutes later it was replaced by something else. Gone. Not all of are artists, but we all have something to say. This is precious. Who did we become? What did we make of our parents’ experience? The Art & Writings Project was founded to be an expression of our voice.

KasvaPress is a family-owned publisher based in Alfe Menashe Israel, with a U.S. Headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. We publish from 2-5 books each year. Our authors write about Jewish issues, women’s rights, and minority interests. They come from all over the world and from all races and religions.

We believe that a book transmits more than information; it is a means to extend human memory from the distant past into the foreseeable future. As such we take pride in the memories that we hand on to future generations.
